#THISOLDTHINGCHALLENGE
I took part in #THISOLDTHINGCHALLENGE back at the end of April. It was a week long project started by @pipjolley and @foreveryoursbetty on Instagram and coincided with Fashion revolution week. Each day for 7 days you were asked to pick a vintage piece/older piece of clothing from your wardrobe that you love and tell it’s story, by posting on Instagram. Each day was a different item of clothing and it made me really think about what item i wanted to show off. Celebrating second hand and vintage clothing is such a great way of keeping the fashion industry sustainable, preventing old clothes going to landfill. Styling each item in different ways gives them a new lease of life and can reinvent look after look. I love a good rummage round a charity shop or vintage fair and have found some absolute gems over the years, many being featured below!
Pick it // Style it // Shoot it // Tag us // Tell it’s story
Day 1: Jacket - My beautiful OG Thomas Burberry jacket that i bought from a charity shop in Galashiels when I was studying my MA there. All there charity shops were filled with designer gems! It cost me £10 and i will never part with it - unless my sister steals it which is pretty much all the time!
Day 2: Shirt - My navy cord overshirt which is my go-to throw on piece, whether its over a cropped top in the summer or hoodie in the winter, it’s a keeper!
Day 3: Jumpsuit - I received this denim jumpsuit which is from Topshop as a birthday present. I wish it was a vintage find, but it fits me great and i love this rich classic colour of denim. Again i love to style this up either layering my Jag Gilet or wearing on it’s own with a statement bag.
Day 4: Trousers - These spotty trousers are sooooo comfy, they feel like you’re still wearing your pj’s! They are an exclusive Dreamland sample that i bought at one of Ruby’s pop-up shops. This design never went into production so I have a true one-of-a-kind!!
Day 5: Top - I found this designer number in a charity shop in Broughty Ferry, Dundee. This classic Calvin Klein button up sleeveless top has their iconic logo on the silver buttons and i love wearing it buttoned up as a top or open over a t-shirt. Such a versatile piece!
Day 6: Dress - My second Dreamland piece in this challenge and this dress is from Dreamland’s Vintage collection. This jumper dress is super comfy with beaut gold embellishments that can be worn as dress or over jeans with Doc boots.
Day 7: Accessories - For the last day of the challenge I decided to choose family jewellery that I have been handed down from my mum/gran/auntie and great great auntie. Each piece tells its own story and i have such an emotional connection to them. Accessorizing an outfit is a great way to style something differently or elevate it. It’s amazing how a necklace/bracelet/ring or pair of earrings can instantly make you feel amazing!
I love wearing and styling the above pieces of clothing and accessories and will never part with any of them - other than maybe passing down to a family member, etc. It’s so important these days to invest in pieces of clothing and accessories that you will cherish for a long time, rework into new outfits or style in different ways.
